On the 5th of February 2019 we wave good bye to the Year of the Dog and welcome the Chinese New Year, year of the Earth Pig. This lucky animal PIG symbolizes wealth, their chubby faces and big ears are signs of fortune as well. Pigs have beautiful personality and are blessed with good fortune in life.
Chinese New Year is celebrated by more than 20% of the world. It is the most important of the Chinese holidays, and it is a time of reunion and feasting with family, celebration, fireworks and gift giving. During this time, the children receive a red packet with money inside ending in even numbers, like “8” and commonly known as “Ang Pow” or “HongBao” which means red packet. This money is believed to help in blessing both elders and kids with greater fortune.
Vision City Mega Mall welcomes the Chinese New Year with fun and entertainment as part of the annual tradition of the mall. The Mall Management and majority of the shops joined in one day to celebrate and welcoming the New Year with a full performance of the Lion and Dragon Dance Group. The Lion and Dragon performers are both old traditions that demand acrobatic skill and years of tough training from the performers involved. The role of the Dragon and Lion Dance is to promote the spiritual construction, physically and mentally. As most of the traditions of Chinese New Year, the Chinese believes it will draw good fortune and prosperity to the business.
